It’s well-known that many CEO’s and high-power executives are avid readers or audiobook listeners, and Jim is no different. We thought we would share with you what the CEO and founder of the Jim’s Group, Jim Penman, have been listening to over the last couple of months.
The Social Animal by David Brooks. Citing lots of studies on why we are the way we are, in an accessible format following individuals through life.
One Second after (and sequels) by William R. Fortschen. A realistic and frightening account of the aftermath of an EMP which knocks out power and computers and most transport.
Your future self will thank you by Drew Dyck. Christian-oriented book on self-discipline which I found inspiring and helpful
The Tipping point by Malcolm Gladwell about how small changes can have significant impacts. Anything by Malcolm Gladwell is good
The Happiness Hypothesis, about the science of happiness
Crushing it, about the use of Social Media
The storm before the storm by Mike Duncan, about the last century of the Roman Republic. Well-travelled topic but the best I’ve ever read on this period, with strong parallels to our own time
Zealot by Reza Aslan. Putting Jesus into historical perspective, by a non-Christian. I’ve listened to this one three times!
The Coddling of the American Mind. About the follies of protecting the young from hardship and controversy and the effect in increasing mental illness
Surely you’re joking, Mr Feynman! Excellent autobiography by a great scientist
Happiness by Design. More on happiness
Everybody Lies. what we can learn from Google – fascinating
Grinding it out, by Ray Kroc.
Guns, germs and steel. An excellent book about why civilizations develop where they do. Fantastic book, one of the best. I’ve listened to it several times.
Let us know if you have any suggestions or have been listening to the same books as Jim!
